Flower rules at Northwoods National Cemetery

  • Fresh cut flowers may be placed on graves at any time of the year.
  • Artificial flowers may only be placed on graves from October 1 through April 1 because the wires from artificial flowers have caused damage to the mowing equipment, and pose a safety hazard to workers and visitors during mowing operations.
  • They will be removed when they are faded or unsightly.
  • NO GLASS or METAL of any kind is allowed.
  • Northwoods National Cemetery does not sell or provide flowers, wreaths or other gravesite adornments and our staff cannot recommend a private florist.
  • Planting of flowers, shrubs, potted plants, etc. are prohibited.
  • Holiday wreaths or grave blankets may be placed on graves from November 1 through January 20.
  • They will be removed after January 20 or when they become withered, faded or otherwise unsightly.

From the cemetery's posted Floral and Grounds Policy (Department of Veterans Affairs). BloomBridge arrangements are silk, which these rules count as artificial flowers, so pick a delivery date inside the cemetery's window. Your Runner follows the posted rules.

Questions about Northwoods National Cemetery

Yes. A local Runner places the arrangement and sends you a photo at the headstone. Give us the name on the headstone and any section or plot details you have; a Find a Grave link helps the Runner find the grave.

What kind of flowers are placed?

Hand-crafted silk arrangements built for outdoor use, in a vase or as a headstone saddle, so they stay in place and in color for months. Fresh-cut flowers wilt within days at a grave.

Are silk flowers allowed at Northwoods National Cemetery?

Northwoods National Cemetery's posted rule: "Artificial flowers may only be placed on graves from October 1 through April 1 because the wires from artificial flowers have caused damage to the mowing equipment, and pose a safety hazard to workers and visitors during mowing operations." Fresh flowers are welcome at national cemeteries any day. Your Runner follows the posted dates.
