BloomBridge and Find a Grave: The Flower Delivery Button on Every U.S. Memorial

If you have looked up a loved one on Find a Grave recently, you may have noticed a button on the memorial page that was not there a few years ago: Flower Delivery. It appears on memorials for burials in the United States, and it brings you to BloomBridge with the cemetery and grave details from that memorial already passed along. This is how that came to be.

A Find a Grave volunteer with a promise to keep

BloomBridge was started by Kristen Allen, a long-serving Find a Grave volunteer who had always left flowers at the graves of her own family. Her grandmother's instruction was simple: when it was her time, do not let her be the only one out there without flowers. Kristen promised. Then she moved away from her hometown, and the promise became a problem of distance rather than intention. BloomBridge was her answer: a way to have flowers placed at a grave, by someone local, with a photo sent back to prove it.

What Find a Grave built

Find a Grave members have long been able to leave virtual flowers on a memorial. In December 2022, Find a Grave began working with BloomBridge so that members who wanted to do more could have real flowers placed at the grave. They added the Flower Delivery button to memorial pages for burials in the United States. Clicking it opens a BloomBridge page, Grave Flowers, with the memorial's cemetery and location information carried across, so the person ordering does not have to look anything up or type it again.

How it works from the memorial page

1. Open the memorial on Find a Grave and click Flower Delivery.
2. You arrive at BloomBridge with the cemetery and the name already in place. Add plot details if the memorial did not have them; if it did not, a local Runner locates the grave.
3. Choose an arrangement and a delivery date, for one visit or for a schedule through the year.
4. A BloomBridge Runner places the arrangement at the grave and you receive a photo of it at the headstone. The photo also goes onto the memorial page BloomBridge creates for the grave.

Why it matters

Find a Grave is where families go to locate the graves of people they cannot visit. Most of the memorials that get the most traffic are for people whose descendants live far away, which is exactly who BloomBridge exists for. Putting the two together means that finding the grave and tending it are one step apart, for any cemetery in all 50 states.

Questions members asked

When Find a Grave announced the partnership, its members asked good questions in the comments. The short answers:

• Which states? All of them. BloomBridge delivers to cemeteries in all 50 states through local Runners.
• What if the memorial has no plot information? The Runner locates the grave from the cemetery and the name, and any details you add when ordering. Our guide to finding a grave in a cemetery explains how.
