Arizona's cemeteries range from the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in north Phoenix, one of the busiest in the country, to the old mining-town graveyards of Bisbee and Jerome and the desert memorial parks of Tucson and Mesa. Many of the people buried here retired from somewhere else, and their children are still somewhere else.

The best season at the grave: mild, bright and busy with Easter and Mother's Day visits. Cemeteries do their main clean-up around March.

Summer (May to September)

Extreme heat and sun. Fresh flowers last hours; silk in whites, yellows and blues fades slowest. Runners deliver early in the day.

Fall (October to November)

Temperatures ease and cemeteries fill again. Mums and harvest colors for Thanksgiving hold well in the dry air.

Winter (December to January)

Mild and sunny. Holiday arrangements last well into the new year; national cemeteries are inside their silk window.
