Kentucky has Cave Hill in Louisville and the Lexington Cemetery, two of the finest garden cemeteries in the South, and seven national cemeteries including Zachary Taylor, Camp Nelson, Lebanon and Mill Springs. The hollows of the east and the farm counties of the west are full of family and church cemeteries.

Summers are hot, winters are short, and the mowing season runs from March to November. Every arrangement is hand-crafted in outdoor silk so it stays in place between visits. What holds up, and when the grounds crews clear, in this climate.

Spring (March to May)

The spring clean-up lands in March. Easter and Mother's Day deliveries placed after it stay for months. Pollen season coats everything; a rinse restores a silk arrangement.

Summer (June to September)

Hot and humid. Fresh flowers last a day or two; silk in lighter colors fades slowest. Weekly mowing means flowers belong in the vase or on the stone.

Fall (October to November)

The best-looking months in a Southern cemetery. Mums and harvest colors for Thanksgiving; deliver after the October clean-up.

Winter (December to February)

Mild, with an occasional freeze. Holiday arrangements placed in early December hold through New Year; national cemeteries are inside their silk window all winter.

How long do the flowers last in Kentucky?

A silk arrangement placed in spring is still in place and in color at the end of summer. Lighter colors fade slowest in full sun.
