Maine's graves are in small town cemeteries from Kittery to the County, in Evergreen and Forest City in Portland, and in two national cemeteries, Togus near Augusta and Acadia in Jonesboro. Winters are long and the ground is under snow from December to April; the delivery calendar works around it.

Acadia National Cemetery

Artificial flowers will be permitted on graves from October 10 through April 15 and may be removed when their presence interferes with grounds maintenance.

What holds up, and when the grounds crews clear, in this climate.

Spring (April to May)

Cemeteries clear winter decorations and open the vases once the ground thaws, usually in April. Deliveries placed after the clean-up stay through summer.

Summer (June to September)

The easiest season here. Weekly mowing means flowers go in the vase or on the stone. Silk holds its color through the short summer with little fading.

Fall (October to November)

Mums and harvest colors before the leaves come down. Most cemeteries clear decorations in November ahead of snow; deliver after, or plan for the holiday arrangement.

Winter (December to March)

Snow cover for months. Vases are stored; a saddle on an upright stone or an evergreen arrangement against it stays visible above the snow. Some cemeteries close interior roads; Runners time deliveries around plowing.

Can you place silk flowers at Acadia National Cemetery?

In the permitted windows: roughly mid-October through mid-April and about ten days either side of Easter, Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Fresh flowers are welcome any day. Your Runner follows the posted dates.

How long do the flowers last in Maine?

A silk arrangement lasts from the spring clean-up to the fall one, and an evergreen arrangement stands through the snow. Fresh flowers last days, and freeze in winter.

Will I know the flowers were placed?

A photo of the arrangement at the headstone is emailed to you after every delivery and added to the memorial page for the family.
