Planning & How-To
One Delivery or a Plan? How to Choose Dates for Flowers at a Grave
Single delivery, one a year, or a seasonal schedule: how families decide, which dates they pick, and how to build a year of flowers at a grave that runs without anyone remembering.
Every graveside order starts with the same fork: is this for one day, or for the year? There is no wrong answer, but families who think about it for a minute usually land somewhere specific. Here is how the choice tends to go.
A single delivery
One arrangement, one date. Right when there is one occasion in mind: a birthday next month, the first Christmas, a sympathy gift for a friend's loss, or a first delivery to a grave you have not seen in years, to see how it goes. The photo arrives, the grave is tended for a season, and you decide later whether to do it again.
One delivery a year
The same date, every year, without ordering again. Right for families who keep one date above all others, usually the birthday or the anniversary of the death, and want it handled for good. Many people describe the relief of not having to remember: the delivery happens, the photo lands, the date was kept.
Two, three or four a year
A schedule through the year. This is what most families who use BloomBridge for more than one date settle on, because it matches how a grave actually looks over twelve months: a cemetery clears decorations in spring and fall, silk lasts a season, and the dates that matter fall in every quarter. The common shapes:
- Two a year: the birthday and Christmas. Or Memorial Day and the anniversary.
- Three a year: spring (Easter or Mother's Day), the birthday, the holidays.
- Four a year: one per season. Spring after the clean-up, summer, fall for Thanksgiving, winter for Christmas. The grave is never bare and each arrangement is replaced before the last one fades.
Picking the dates
Three rules of thumb from families who have done this for years:
- Deliver before the day, not on it. A few days ahead means the flowers are there for everyone who visits over the weekend, and the Runner avoids the holiday crowd.
- Land after the clean-up. If the cemetery clears in March, a spring delivery in late March or April stays for months; one in early March may not. Our guide to cemetery flower rules explains how to find the dates.
- Mind the national cemetery windows. At a national cemetery, put silk deliveries in the winter window and around Easter, Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Our national cemetery guide has them.
Choosing the arrangements
A plan does not have to be the same arrangement four times. Most families match the season: pastels in spring, brights in summer, mums in fall, poinsettias and evergreens for the holidays, with the person's favorite flower for the birthday. Every arrangement is hand-crafted in silk and can go in any slot.
On BloomBridge you choose the plan, then pick each delivery date and arrangement on a simple schedule. Change a date, swap an arrangement or cancel any time. A photo of every delivery goes to you and onto the memorial page.
Sharing the cost across a family
Grandparents' graves have many descendants. Families often split a plan: one grandchild takes the birthday, another the holidays, or one person orders and the cousins chip in. An eGift card is the simplest way to contribute to a plan someone else manages.
